FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - (MARCH 23, 2004) - South Florida will get a rare look at the peoples' princess in a memorable exhibition - Diana, a Celebration set to make its U.S. debut at the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale. The limited engagement, chronicling both the public life and private side of Diana, Princess of Wales, opens October 10, 2004 and remains on view through December 31, 2004. Followed by a stop in St. Petersburg at the International Museum. Scheduled to open February 19, 2005 and remain on view through May 22, 2005. Diana, a Celebration, arrives from the Althorp Estate in England, the Spencer family's 500-year-old ancestral home, where it has been on display since 1998 and has attracted 700,000 visitors although only open to the public for the three summer months of the year. The exhibition showcases the life and humanitarian work of one of the most remarkable women of her time and certainly one of the most photographed - her image appeared on the cover of People magazine 52 times. More than one hundred and fifty objects including the breathtaking royal wedding gown, twenty eight designer dresses and personal family items from Althorp Estate chronicle Diana, Princess of Wales' life The hundred and fifty stunning objects that chronicle her life allow visitors to share the milestones of her many roles: as a youngster, schoolgirl and athlete; as the shy kindergarten teacher who captured the hearts of Prince Charles and the public; as the young, ravishing royal bride; as the devoted mother, sister and daughter; and as the tireless charity advocate and spokeswoman. The strength of the Spencer women and their roots in the bucolic Althorp Estate form the backdrop for Diana's formative years. The glorious, show-stopping Royal Wedding Gallery features her resplendent gown, diamond tiara, veil and 25-foot train, shoes and parasol and her bridesmaids' dresses, among other items. Also featured in the exhibition are portraits of her ancestors, family jewels, heirlooms, paintings, artifacts and photographs. Home movies filmed by her father and scenes from her childhood, her engagement to Prince Charles and the events leading up to the royal wedding are remembered and animated with video, personal possessions, photographs personal correspondence. In announcing the Fort Lauderdale engagement, producer John Norman, President of Arts and Exhibitions International said: "Earl Spencer (Diana's brother) and I are delighted that the U.S. debut of Diana, a Celebration will be at the Museum of Art, Fort Lauderdale. One entire section of the exhibition is devoted to Diana's energetic and multi-faceted public life and involvement in myriad charities and causes, including her pioneering efforts of those afflicted by AIDS, the care of the homeless and the tragic consequences of the unregulated use of land mines. A three-screened video presentation highlights the hundreds of associations that continue to benefit from her patronage and energetic dedication. The musical score and handwritten lyrics of the Elton John / Bernie Taupin composition dedicated to Diana and adapted from Candle in the Wind. Seventeenth and eighteenth century paintings from the Althorp Estate.
