Floral Petal Carpets from Italy, Virginia and Arizona
Floral Petal Carpets from Italy, Virginia and Arizona
In last week’s blog we featured some of the amazing floral carpets (or “le infiorate”) from an ancient town in central Italy, and we introduced you to our customer Amy who was so inspired by her trip to Italy that she brought the floral carpets back home to her parish. If you missed that blog click here to see the beautiful Italian floral carpets.
Every year in Spello, Italy and in many other towns around the world, floral
carpets are created in preparation for Corpus Domini also known as The Feast of
Corpus Christi. Thousands of people work to create the ‘carpets’ made of
flowers, petals, bark and other natural items to honor the passage of the
Blessed Sacrament.
This week we want to follow up where we left off and show you the incredible work that Amy and the students of her home parish of St. Timothy Catholic Church in Chantilly, Virginia. In 2015 they created two floral carpets and this year they expanded even further and made three incredible floral carpets, featuring Flyboy Naturals Freeze Dried petals! Here’s a look at the incredible designs that Amy’s after school club students created this year (all photos courtesy of Amy Powers):
We are so grateful for the work of Amy and these students and for sharing this rich cultural art with us! It also got us thinking about how this could be carried over to other events, like weddings, baby showers, proposals and so much more. Where would you create a floral carpet?
